Introduction to PHP

PHP stands for Hypertext Preprocessor. It was initially known as Personal Home Page.
PHP is a popular general-purpose scripting language that is especially suited to web development .


It was originally created by
Rasmus Lerdorf in 1994;  the PHP reference implementation is now produced by The PHP Groups.

PHP script are executed on the server and the result is sent to the web browser as plain HTML.
The current version of PHP is 7. So all the tutorial on my blog are based on PHP 7.



Why learn PHP

PHP is a very powerful modern programming tool such that websites like Facebook , Flickr , Wikipedia and Yahoo are built using PHP.
Imagine what you will build when you learn this beautiful programming language. To top it all, most of the powerful CMS ( content management system) such as WordPress, Joomla are also built in PHP.
You see why you should take this serious.



What can you do with PHP
There are more than a lot you can do with PHP. Let me list some of them

• Fast performance : When we talk of speed, programs written in PHP are very fast to execute compared to other programming language.


• Portability : PHP runs on all platforms like Microsoft Windows, Mac OS and Linux.



When do I begin to learn PHP
My dear, you can learn PHP at any time. Depending on your mode of studying. I would advise that before you start with PHP, you should be very groomed with HTML. Once you are familiar with HTML, then you will have no difficulty in learning PHP.
